Ian Pople BA (Hons) MTP MRTPI
Director

Cotswold Vale Planning Ltd is a town planning consultancy based in Dursley, providing planning advice to clients in the surrounding area.
I principally cover Gloucestershire, Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and the Cotswolds but the nature of the job is such that I can cover most parts of the UK.
I have almost 20 years experience in Town & Country Planning, gained working in both the public and private sector.

I started my career as a Planning Officer working for a local authority (Stroud District Council) in 2003, after gaining my Degree and Masters. I quickly rose to the position of Senior Planner, a post that I held until I left local government for the private sector at the end of 2014.
I was responsible for managing a team of four officers within the Development Management department. During this time, I had involvement in all aspects of the application process, determining both major and minor planning applications covering all types of development from household extensions, changes of use, agricultural permitted development, commercial development and larger residential schemes.
I then joined a private consultancy as a Principal Planner in 2015, where I was able to put my knowledge and experience gained in local government to good use.
I have a keen interest in all planning related subjects but I particularly enjoy dealing with rural planning matters and have represented clients on numerous application, including at appeals and hearings.
My experience of working in local government enables me to provide an additional insight into the planning system for my clients, which is vital in being able to predict the local planning authority's likely response to a proposal before it is even submitted.
I am a fully accredited member of The Royal Town Planning Institute.
Outside of work, I am currently renovating my house, which takes up most of my spare time. When I'm not busy with that I enjoy several country pursuits and long walks with my family and Finley, our working cocker spaniel.
